Region 14– Layton Christian has been the clear favorite out of region 14 for the past few years with Waterford right behind them. Although LCA does graduate dynamic PG Mark Burton things look to remain the same this year as well. What could hurt Waterford and LCA is their weak region schedule play, as they will face tougher opponents in the tournament.
- Layton Christian Academy– will likely come in as the number 1 or 2 team in all of 2A once again as they return Christians Gutierrez and Nicholas Aguirre. These two guards can do it all on both ends of the court. Both players will be surrounded by great new and old players as they should go undefeated in region play. They’re challenging pre-season schedule always separates them from most teams in 2A.
- Waterford– has put together some great teams and Coach Ryann Judd looks to have another team that could make a run in the State Tournament. They will have an early test against Emery on December 2nd but should cruise to a 2nd place finish in region 14. If the Ravens want to knock-off LCA it will come at the hands of there three returning seniors Xander Priskos, Parker Law and Jackson Sponaugle. These three seniors avergaed over 37 ppg. I know that they will have the two Layton Christian games circled on the calendar. I wouldn’t be surprised if they pull off an upset win when they host LCA.
- Rowland Hall-St. Marks– should have a better year under Coach Ronnie Ross who will be in his 2nd season but loosing Kyle Eng and his 20 ppg. will hurt the Winged Lions. They will have to turn to some of their young players to help produce this year like Leif Thulin, Jack Scaife and Luke Roberts who only avaergaed 5 ppg last year individually.
- Rockwell– should put a competitive bunch together led by Coach Ryan Stuart but they lose all of their significant players so by default of the unknown they finish at fourth.
- APA- will be in its first official year as a member of the UHSAA and we don’t expect them to make any noise but the unknown could surprise a team like Rockwell.
- AISU- is also a new member in the UHSAA this year. They have been competitive in their previous league but we expect them to have some transition issues as a first year program.
