Runs the floor hard and can be a factor scoring a couple buckets a game by just beating his man down to the other end of the floor. In the half court Heil excels as a pick and pop shooter. Stretches the floor with his shooting ability which is consistent from 15-18 feet and shows range out to three on occasion. The face up four man can also flash a quick post move in the paint. Heil would be an outstanding D3/NAIA prospect for a team in need of a floor spacing four man.
Heil spoke about expanding his ability to shoot the ball.
“I have been working a lot in the offseason to expand my range and I feel I have been able to show that. Hitting some threes. Hitting shots where I am not always underneath the basket. Up until now I have been doing a lot of inside stuff. Last season I stretched it out to the elbow. This offseason I have been coming out to the three.”
He is preparing for his senior season under a new head coach at Carterville.
“The summer was spent learning our new coaches system. I really like him. He is the real deal. All the players are familiar with him and how he wants to run things. We will be ready to go for the season.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“Right now I have been in contact with Illinois Tech. I visited there when I was in Chicago. I really liked the campus. I am really looking at engineering schools because that is the major I want to go into. I have been in contact with the coach at Rose Hulman. I visited them over the summer. I got a 36 on my match ACT so I think that is appealing to these engineering schools.”
