The Rockets might have the best player in the state and with two others that will play at the Division II level or better, the Rockets are loaded with quality players. Ray Adams might get overlooked because of the other talent, but he’s a talented player in his own right.
Adams started 16 games and averaged about seven points per game a year ago for the Rockets but with Michael Hurt and DeAngelo Tines both gone to graduation, he’ll have ample opportunity to step up and produce this winter.
He’s hoping that can lead to some more college interest as well.
“St. Scholastica has been talking to me a lot,” Adams said of his recruitment. “Right now that’s the only school that’s been talking to me. I’m hoping to draw some more interest this upcoming season. I think a big season could help me a lot.”
At 6-foot-3, Adams has the prototypical size and athleticism to play on the wing in college. He’s long and uses his strength to his advantage. He’s a strong slasher and excels in transition – which fits the style the Rockets want to play. Adams has worked on improving his outside shot and is hoping to showcase that a little more this winter.
“I’ve been working on my shot and my ball-handling skills a lot,” said Adams. “I used to be a big man but I’ve had to develop my perimeter skillset more. I struggled a little bit finding my shot last year. This year I’m more confident and I think I’ll be able to do a lot more.”
Adams hasn’t drawn a ton of college interest yet but he’s hoping a strong season can help his stock.
“I’m just hoping the right college for me comes around and can watch me play,” said Adams. “Hopefully I like the school. Right now I’m just hoping to draw more interest. I’m not real picky. I just want to feel comfortable.”
