Four offers have come in so far for Gladney; Louisiana-Lafayette, New Orleans, Tulsa and McNeese State.
He mentioned interest is coming in from the following programs; Texas, Mount St Mary’s, LSU, Northwestern State, UCONN, Virginia Tech and Clemson.
It was one game in particular (at nationals in Orlando) during the summer when Gladney says he was able to put himself on the radar of several coaches.
“My last game at nationals in Orlando I had a big game, with 19 points, 10 rebounds, 3 blocks and the game winning shot,” said Gladney. “And everyone started putting me on their radar after that.”
With still plenty of time for his recruitment to materialize, Gladney says his main focus right now is just improving his game.
“I’m just hoping to get better,” said Gladney. “And when the time comes for me to choose a school I’m going to talk it over with my family and friends.”
At 6-foot-8 and with an increasing ability to excel on the perimeter, Gladney could have several more offers by this time next year.
“I’m playing primarily on the wing now pretty much, and I can shoot the 3-ball real good, and I can still post up in the paint,” said Gladney.
“I’m working on my handle a lot right now, that’s one of my weaknesses.”
The exposure he gained while playing with the Houston Defenders in the Under Armour Association this spring and summer was also key for his recruitment.
“I sat out last summer (2015), and then everybody was calling me about coming to play with them. And I talked to the Defenders and they treated me like I was already one of them, so I ended up playing with them,” said Gladney,
And now, with his junior season set to begin, Gladney has set a list of personal goals he’d like to accomplish this year.
“I’m trying to get into the Under Armour All-American Camp next year, and I’m trying to be all-state and Gatorade Player of the Year.”
