“State championship or bust, that’s’ the goal this season,” Mitchell told PHMI.
Michigan’s 20th-ranked 2018, Mitchell says his role for the team will be as a true point guard, and that the talent level surrounding him is key to that role.
“My role for the team this year is to be more of a pure point guard, and since I’m paying with so many other great players I can really work on getting them the basketball,” said Mitchell.
“I like to get my teammates involved, I like to create for others. And I can shoot the ball and defend too, that’s what I bring to the table when I’m on the floor.”
The junior standout is one of just a handful of guys from Michigan’s 2018 class which have already committed.
Central Michigan was the first school to offer him, and it got a commitment after his sophomore season.
“I just felt like the school felt like home, and it just felt like the right place for me,” said Mitchell. “The plan is for me to come in and make an impact on the court right away, just as a soon as I get there.”
Style of play was also a deciding factor, and Mitchell likes the Chippewas’ philosophies on the court.
“At CMU they like to get up the court and they like to let their guards play, and they have one of the best backcourts in the MAC,” he said. “That’s one of the reasons I chose that school, is their playing style.”
