What I like most about Johnson’s game is the motor and tenacity that he plays with. Johnson brings it every minute of the game. He is best in the transition game where he finishes above the rim and pulls away from defenders trying to chase him down. Explosive leaper that finishes well above the rim. Very streaky shooter, but can hit an occasional three. He has a chance to be a beast perimeter defender with his athleticism and lateral quickness. If his skill set develops watch out!
How did it go this past summer with Get Buckets on the circuit?
“It was good. I got to show off my talents. It was a great summer.”
He talked about what he is working on in his game.
“Definitely my shot. I have been working on my shot and ball handling. Trying to become a true guard. Looking for others and not just scoring for myself.”
For those that haven’t seen him play Johnson broke down what he does on the floor.
“At this point I am a volume shooter, but I will knock it down. I will go past people and look for the open man. Always looking up the floor. If anyone has a layup I am going to block it.”
He will make an impact as a sophomore this year for Morgan Park.
“Definitely excited to play with Ayo, Lenell, and Melo. It is going to be very exciting for me playing with older guys. I have to fill big shoes.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have an offer from UTEP and visited Wisconsin.”
He spoke about the Wisconsin visit.
“It was nice. The atmosphere was great. I have never seen a college atmosphere like that before. I went to the football game. It was awesome.”
UTEP is his lone offer at this time.
“I don’t know much. I know Tim Floyd came to the gym and watched me play. He told me to keep working on my game and that he liked the way I play.”
