There are a few Division I programs that have been expressing interest in Louisiana’s 28th-ranked 2017, and some seem close to extending that first offer.
“I’ve been talking a lot with Nicholls State. And Western Kentucky came to practice a couple weeks ago, that’s a school I really like and hopefully they’ll offer next time around,” said Morgan.
“I think Nicholls State is close (to offering), they come down to practice every now and then, and I went there for an elite camp. And I’ve been talking to Tulane a little bit too.”
With his high school career coming to a close, Morgan says he’s not picky on where he may end up next season.
“I’ll really go anywhere, wherever I can fit in and just play my role. Hopefully I can pick up an offer this winter, and if I have a season like I did last year than I think I’ll be fine,” said Morgan. “We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”
A savvy guard who says smarts on the court is his best strength, Morgan defined his game to PHLA.
“I think my best strength is my scoring, and I think what really sets me apart is my high basketball IQ. I know what plays to make at the right time,” said Morgan, who spent his 17U season with one of Louisiana’s premier program, New Orleans Elite.
“I had a pretty decent AAU season, things I worked on was being a coachable player, and working in my defense and stuff like that.”
And now, after averaging 22.6 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists per game last season as a junior, Morgan is getting set for a senior season where he seems poised to shine.
“We have a great team this year, and my goal is I want to make it farther in the playoffs than in past years. And I just want to make it to the championship,” said Morgan.
“The last year or two I’ve been in a leadership role, and taking care of the team and making sure everybody knows what they’re supposed to be doing. This year they’ll need me to score the ball more than ever. And anything the coach needs me to do, I’ll do.”
