At the end of the summer, I asked a lot of people, “How does a kid like Jason Wade only have three offers?” While many had no ideas, Wade himself had the best reasoning behind it.
“I feel that I could have played much better during the AAU season but I was held back by a back injury,” he said. “I’m hoping to high my GPA and to increase my recruitment with another year.”
Wade had a tremendous season last year for Hanover, where he averaged a double-double and was one of the area’s top scorers at over 26 points per game. The 6’4” combo guard pulled duties of being the primary ball handler, scorer, creator and rebounder for his team, and on multiple occasions he kept his team competitive against some of the best teams in the area.
While he held offers from Campbell, Delaware and Hofstra by the end of the summer, Wade felt like the best option for him was to reclassify to 2018 to have more options moving forward. He picked Trinity Episcopal, a team that already had three players with division one offers on them, and it has already paid off as he’s received offers from Towson, ODU and JMU since making the decision.
As for why he picked Trinity, the situation just fit him perfectly.
“I picked Trinity because I enjoyed the environment on my visit and I knew I would be coming in and helping out a good team,” Wade said. “ I thought it would be an opportunity to improve both athletically and academically.”
Along with those offers, Wade holds interest from a number of mid to high major school including Arkansas State, Temple, Dayton, Duquesne, College of Charleston, Winthrop, Murray State, Ohio University, Kent State and Wofford.
Jason Wade should see his recruitment take off with another year at Trinity.Having to do a little bit of everything last year has Wade prepared for this season, where he won’t be asked to do as much but his versatility will fit in well with this talented Trinity team. He still has to work on his perimeter jump shot, but he’s going to be able to help point guard Aaron Duhart with ball handling abilities, something the Titans desperately needed.
His move to Trinity will help both in the classroom and on the court, especially for his recruitment because it will give coaches a chance to see him at his best.
“I’m big for a guard. I can handle the rock and can see the floor well. I can get to the basket and finish at will and I can play and guard the one through three,” Wade said.
As for this season, Wade knows that this team is more than just him, and he wants to get in where he fits in.
“My goals this season are to win a state championship and to get better as an individual.”
Trinity looked extremely good at the BooPlex Jamboree in October, where they went 3-0 with wins over Bishop Sullivan, National Christian and three time defending state champs Norcom. The addition of Wade turns them from a competitor to one of the favorites in the VISAA Division One race, and if he can help lead his team to a state championship it could do wonders for his recruitment moving forward.
