Pendleton’s been a key member of Cardinal teams that have been to the state tournament or at least on the doorstep of the state tournament each of the last three seasons and this year should be no different.
“We should be pretty good again this year,” said Pendleton, who averaged 21 points, six rebounds and three assists per game as a junior. “We’ve got a good group of seniors. We were good last year but lost to Jackson [County Central] who ended up getting second in the state tournament. Our whole starting five should be seniors and a lot of guys are experienced so we should have a good season.”
Pendleton’s a two-sport star for the Cardinals, excelling both on the basketball court and on the football field where he plays wide receiver and defensive back. He’s gotten college interest in both sports.
“St. Scholastica, Morris, Jamestown, Bethany [Lutheran] and the University of Chicago have been contacting me for basketball,” said Pendleton. “Dakota State, Morris and Concordia, Moorhead have been recruiting me for football. I’m pretty open on both sports. If I had a preference I’d say it’s basketball but I could really see myself playing either one.”
On the hardwood, Pendleton is a high-volume scoring guard who can fill it up from the perimeter. He’s a very good outside shooter who also creates well for his teammates. He’s not the biggest guy but he’s excelled in a good basketball conference for a while now and if the Cardinals are going to be good again in 2016-17, Pendleton is going to be the guy leading the way.
