“I don’t technically have any offers yet, but I’ve gone on a few visits. I’ve visited Hope, Trine, Indiana Wesleyan, and I’d say in general I’m being most heavily recruited by Kalamazoo, Hope and the D3 schools in that conference (MIAA). As well as some NAIA schools, like Concordia,” said Hoekstra.
“I really liked all the schools (I visited); the environment and the campuses and the basketball side of things as well. And I haven’t really narrowed it down much as far as my college choice goes.”
Hoekstra still has his entire senior season to showcase himself in front of prospective college coaches, and is hoping to get some late higher level interest.
“I would hope that I start picking up more college interest from more NAIA or D2 schools, but I’m not too concerned about that. My focus is on winning a state championship this year, and if I do that the interest will come,” said Hoekstra.
He’ll have to take on more of a leadership role with the Trojans this winter, and says his role will expand from being exclusively a shooter, to a more complete impact player.
“I really haven’t thought too much about my personal goals, I’m just focused on doing whatever I can to help us win a state championship,” said Hoekstra.
“This year I’m going to be more of a leader, more of a team captain — so there’s certain responsibilities that come with that. And on the court I’m going to be more of an all-around player, not just a shooter.”
