Ben Mendoza is finally ready to show people how good of a player he is. Mendoza played his junior year with a torn meniscus and still managed to average just over 10 points per game for Ben Lomond High School. After having surgery in the off-season, Mendoza is completely healthy and ready to cause havoc in 3A.
When asked about his team Mendoza said, “ I think we have a team that can win the 3A state championship. We have six seniors on the team and this group has played together since we were ten years old. Anything less than a deep state tournament run would be a failure.” Ben Lomond will be tested in a brutal region with Logan, Bear River, and Ridgeline. The Scots will need to have a top 5 finish in region to make the state tournament.
When asked about his skills, Mendoza said, “ I’ve always been known as a three point shooter and that is what I do most. I have worked on my handle so I can get to the rim easier. I really want to make an effort to get to the foul line this year.” Mendoza hit 44 three pointers last year and is able to shoot from well beyond the high school three point line. When asked about his weaknesses, Mendoza said “I sometimes get passive when my shot isn’t falling. I know that on this team my job is to score the ball.”
Mendoza has received interest from various colleges including: Crown College, Washburn University, Western State University, and Rockhurst University. Mendoza can definitely play at the division two level with his knock down shooting ability and his size at 6’3.
