Brendan Beaulieu, 6-3, Sr, Sf, Park of Cottage Grove. Almost in silence, Ed Cassiday got the Wolfpack back to double figure wins last season. A big part of that was a big reason we wrote this article, Brendan Beaulieu. Brendan is versatile, athletic, a strong 6-foot-3, and is coming off a dozen point per game year. Definitely a name to know along with forward teammate Brandon Alt.
Travis Brown, 5-11, Sr, Pg, STMA. Brown is an all around athlete that works has hard as anybody. Put together a nine point, four board, 2.5 assists year as a junior and is expected to have a strong senior season for Coach Johnson. Good defender and quite tough on both ends.
Myka Edmond, 6-0, Sr, Pg, Rosemount. I’m glad that NHR recently wrote about Myka because he is a player that has been in plain vision but I think has been overlooked. Edmond is very good pressuring the basketball and a solid lead guard that scored ten a game last season.
Andrew Hanson, 6-0, Sr, Sg, Burnsville. We feel as if Burnsville will have a turn around year and Andrew (along with Matt Baisch, Marcus Shepley, and Ty Miklowski) is a big part of that. Andrew is Burnsville’s leading returning scorer and a nice player off the bounce.
Luke Johnson, 6-5, Sr, C, Cambridge-Isanti. Luke is different than many on this list as we have talked about him a few times before and his long time starting on varsity has people knowing who he is. But he averaged 16.7 points and 7.3 rebounds a year ago so some light needs to be shined down on what he can do once again.
Dayo Lawal, 6-2, Sr, Sf, Coon Rapids. There are many reasons that people feel Coon Rapids will improve from three wins and Lawal is one of them. He is vicious in his attack that got him to double figures a year ago. He and Sam Carver return as leading scorers from last year plus Tyree’on Johnson and Lionel Warner should really help as well.
Peter Lundquist, 6-5, Sr, Pf, Rochester Mayo. Good sized forward who is at his best facing the basket from range with feet set plus his post game has improved. A skilled guy with size to watch.
Genuine Matthews, 5-9, Sr, Pg, St. Francis. One of the state’s top sprinters, Matthews has a chance to be one of the state’s best defenders. He scored over six a game last year and should impact games handling some, defending a ton, and scoring in double figures this year.
Mason Morse, 6-3, Sr, Sf, Apple Valley. We’ve spent so much time talking about the Eagles junior class but there are a couple seniors that will make them pretty good too. He’s a high IQ player with a nice shooting touch. Morse, Mohamed Kone, and Kevin Totusek will be solid seniors for Coach Goring.
Davonte Said-El, 5-8, Sr, Pg, Robbinsdale Armstrong. Davonte impressed us at Gopher Team Camp and we think he is going to be a pace pushing piece along with other Falcon guards that pushes the tempo.
Alex Sinnen, 6-8, Sr, C, Osseo. Who is that big in orange? That’s Alex who stands 6-foot-8 and Coach Theisen has expectations for him after a solid year on junior varsity last winter.
Ike Thilgen, 5-9, Sr, Sg, Woodbury. When people talk about why Woodbury will be good they list Getzlaff, West, Jones, and of course Coddon. Thilgen was an all league honorable mention guy who scored eight a game in the SEC hitting nearly half of his three point attempts and defending hard.
Nate Varberg/Brian Stone,6-4, F, Sr, Mounds View. The Mustangs always have guys that step forward as seniors and people wonder where they came from. These similar sized forwards both got experience last season and should have big roles. Stone is the tougher frontcourt worker while Varberg is a shooter.
Kurtis Weigand ,6-4, Sr, PF, Blaine. Kurits may be the best rebounder in the state that you don’t know about. How else do you describe a guy that grabbed ten boards a game last year and is also the team’s leading returning scorer?
