Continue ReadingProspect has been hyped as a team to watch out for this season with their gritty leader Matt Szuba leading the way along with a solid backcourt of David Swedura and Frankie Mack. They took on top 5 2018 Drew Peterson and Libertyville to open up Tuesday action at the Joe Majkowski Thanksgiving Tournament. Prospect got the win 59-54. Check out our in-depth scouting report and game MVP awards.
SG Drew Peterson (Libertyville – 2018)
It wasn’t a great game for the #5 junior in the state. Peterson is a 6’7” wing with a long and projectable frame. Oozing with upside for the next level. The junior wasn’t very aggressive at all especially off the bounce. He is a plus athlete with long strides, but seemed tentative to attack off the dribble. When he did he was looking to drive and kick. Good passing feel for a wing of his size. Hit one three for his only field goal of the game. Will need to continue to add strength for his body to match his upside/skill set. Mid-major plus prospect with high-major potential. He had 5 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 blocks.
PG Harrison Bach (Libertyville – 2017)
Bach stands at 6’0” with a crafty game. The senior guard is a lefty that isn’t very athletic, but has a knack for getting in the lane and making plays around the cup with his body control. Can hit a spot up three on occasion. Bach had 16 points. Possible small college kid.
PF Matt Szuba (Prospect – 2017)
The 6’6” power forward from Prospect was outstanding in their win over Libertyville. Szuba played well when we saw him this summer in Milwaukee with his nonstop motor and energy. He did that again on Tuesday. He has a physical body that can really bang down low. Physical on the glass and is a guy that can rebound both in and out of his area. Boxes out and goes after the ball. Gets second chance buckets because of his energy. Offensively he is also skilled with his passing out of the post and ability to hit a face up jump shot. He kicks his legs up on jumper, but gets good elevation and they go in. Hit them from a variety of spots from 15-18 feet and stretched it out for one three. Defensively he is a tough post defender that is active on weak side shot blocking opportunities. He had 16 points, 10 boards, and 4 blocks. High D3/NAIA kid that is a junkyard dog type.
SG Frankie Mack (Prospect – 2017)
Senior shooting guard has strength in his upper body. Strong with the ball and got to the foul line at a nice clip. Solid shooter off the catch. Not the greatest athlete, but productive. The small college prospect had 13 points.
PG David Swedura (Prospect – 2018)
Was impressed with what this junior point guard did running the show for Prospect. In the first half he didn’t score much, but was in complete control of the game getting others involved while drawing defenders and kicking to teammates. Creative passer that is tough and can get in the lane. Second half he showed sound form on a catch and shoot jumper. Pesky on ball defender. He finished with 11 points. Worth tracking right now at the D2, D3, and NAIA levels.
