Continue ReadingWith the early signing period ending on Wednesday there are still tons of quality available prospects for colleges to track and evaluate during the high school season. Here we break down the top available wings and their projected college level in part one of our look at the shooting guard and small forwards.
SF Charles Payton (Olympia)
Payton is one of the best athletes in the class. At 6’6” he is a versatile defender that can check multiple positions. Excels in the open floor and hitting the offensive glass. Most likely will have to play JUCO for a couple years. Top JC wing prospect in Illinois.
SG Lucas Williamson (Whitney Young)
Smooth and versatile wing that was close to signing during the early signing period. Has multiple D1 offers on the table. Stat sheet stuffing shooting guard that plays with a smooth high IQ game. Low-major prospect.
SF Coreyoun Rushin (Westinghouse)
One of the most underrated prospects in the state. Rushin has size at 6’6’” to go along with explosive athleticism. Great in transition, slashes to the hoop, gets on the offensive glass, and defends multiple positions. This is a kid that low-major programs need to jump on now!
SG Carlos Hines (North Lawndale)
Rangy and athletic 6’3” two guard that has a bucket getting mentality. Nose for scoring the ball from the perimeter attacking off the bounce and hitting jumpers. Potential LM prospect or high D2 kid.
SF Romon Douglas-Watkins (Peoria Manual)
RDW is a 6’5” small forward that has a long and athletic frame. Productive scorer that slashes off the bounce. Will be sidelined with an injury this season. Could be a guy that elevates his stock at a JUCO program.
SF Marvin Bateman (Belleville Althoff)
Bateman is among the top three point threats in the state. He is a long and rangy 6’4” wing that is lethal off the catch from three. Potential defensively with physical tools. Being recruited by D2 programs and has LM potential.
SF Oliver Stephen (Edwardsville)
Stephen can flat out shoot it from the perimeter. Quick release off the catch and lets it fly from really deep. Sneaky athlete. D2 prospect that is also worth looking at for LM.
SG Bryan Trimble (St. Joseph’s Ogden)
Trimble is a small school scorer at the high school level that is a solid athlete and can shoot it. Puts up numbers in a hurry. Quality D2 prospect.
SF Doug Wallen (Champaign Central)
Wallen is one of my favorite players with his versatility to play multiple positions. Great feel for the game being able to pass, shoot, and hit the glass. Offensive threat from multiple areas on the floor. High level D2 prospect.
SF Terry Smith (Curie)
Combo forward at 6’4” that is a physical presence mauling people on the glass. Underrated perimeter skill game. D2 prospect.
SF Max Muller (Porta)
The 6’6” Porta wing burst on to the scene this spring and summer with the Illinois Irish. Versatile wing with size and skill combination. Defends and can hit a three ball. Priority D2 kid.
SG Chris Harris (Lake Forest Academy)
Big time athlete that is an above average defender. Offensively he is best in transition as a wing finisher. D2 prospect.
SG Tyler Chisom (Proviso East)
Chisom is one of the top wing defenders in the state. Tough and physical 6’3” guard that can defend both backcourt spots. Offensively he is a transition athlete and slasher. JUCO prospect.
SF Romelo Burrell (Morgan Park)
Burrell is a 6’7” combo forward that has athletic upside. Not overly productive, but has a projectable frame and high ceiling. Upside D2 prospect or could develop into a D1 player if he went to a JUCO.
SF Jeameril Wilson (Niles Notre Dame)
Wilson is an athletic 6’6” small forward that is just scratching the surface of his potential. Can defend multiple positions and is great in transition. Upside D2 prospect.
