Anyone paying attention to basketball in Utah will quickly realize that Wasatch Academy plays a schedule that most schools could not handle. The Tigers are currently (4-1) and will travel to Southern Utah University to play National Power Findlay Prep, NV (7-0). The Tigers spent Thanksgiving in Southern California in the West Valley Thanksgiving Tip-Off at Chaminade High School. Coach Curtis Condie saw great play from 6’0 Junior PG Damion Squire who made the All-Tournament Team, 6’7 Junior G Emmanuel Akot was also impressive as he averaged over 16 ppg. and 6’8 Senior F Josip Vrankic is also putting up over 12 ppg. Unfortunetly for the Tigers they ran into a hungry Winward, CA team lead by Class of 2018 6’5 SF Jules Bernard who has 13 D1 offers who had 23 pts. and 17 reb. in their meeting. Findlay Prep will pose a few more problems for the Tigers but we hope that they can contain Findlay and Kentucky commit 6’9 P.J Washington.
2nd Game of the Week: Bingham High School, UT vs. Centennial High School, NV
Games played at Southern Utah University @ 2 p.m
Most teams like to schedule a few cupcakes in the beginning of the season to make sure the team is running the right plays and for the coach to set up his rotation. This is not the case for the Bingham Miners who are trying to win back-to-back state state championships and are heavy favorites in 5A. The miners have scheduled Centennial High School who lost in the state final last year to Bishop Gorman, NV 71-69. Centennial brings in 5 star Oregon University signee 6’7 Troy Brown Jr, who has been an amazing athlete for some time now. The Miners will need a lot from Utah signee 6’11 C Branden Carlson, 6’2 PG Dayson Youngblood and 6’3 SG Lleyton Parker as this should turnout to be an evenly matched game on paper. Brown will be a match-up problem for the Miners but if Carlson can stay out of foul trouble he could protect the paint and alter some shots.
