Washington had a great defensive effort on Ole Miss commit Parker Stewart only allowing him 26 points on the night to take the victory 58-53.
Leading scorers: Washington: Devin Whitelow 18, Payton Havens 13. Union City: Parker Stewart 26, Jariq Jones 14.
MVP: Payton Havens (Washington)
Despite his size, Payton Havens really got after it tonight. He was wreaking havoc on the defensive end and played really good on the offensive end as well. He took a few charges and hit a few key free throws. He really brought the energy tonight.
Best offensive performance: Devin Whitelow (Washington)
Whitelow hit some key shots in leading his team in points. He showed a quick first step in getting to the basket and also a really nice jumper in the 15′ to 22′ range. Whitelow was very efficient on the night as well.
Best defensive performance: J.J Guedet (Washington)
Guedet was instrumental in the defensive effort for the Panthers as he would not let anything into the paint. He was the biggest guy on the court and took out the opportunity to score in the paint. Guedet will be relied on a lot this year as the guy in the paint for Washington.
Best Intangibles: Collin Dietz (Washington)
While not really getting into the scorebook as much as other players Dietz made a huge impact on the game with his hard play off the bench. Dietz played some crucial minutes and was really impactful with the way he led the team and got some hustle rebounds.
Best Takeaway: Washington has a really good group once again and will make some noise this year. With only one senior they will be good for a while. Union City relied on Stewart a bit too much. While he played a pretty decent game he did not have enough around him to convert it into a win.
