Urbana was a handful though keeping it close and never letting it get far out of hand. It was a great game all around but Manual’s athletes were just too much.
Leading scorers: Urbana: Kristion Dixon 20, Jasai Fayne 16, Jamon Carter-Grady 12, Mystikal Suggs 11, Davonnis Shaw 10. Manual: Courvoisier McCauley 28, Amarie Evans 20, Cameron Sembly 14, Nathan Merriweather 11.
Leading rebounder: Urbana: Kristion Dixon 10. Manual: Courvoisier McCauley 11.
MVP: Courvoisier McCauley (Manual)
It was a tossup for the MVP between the two workhorses but since McCauley produced a win. McCauley was as advertised hitting shots and getting to the line. He was really impressive on the defensive end of things with his length. He will have a big year but may not score as much this year simply due to the fact that Manual will have a lot of scorers on the floor.
Best offensive performance: Kristion Dixon (Urbana)
Dixon was really good on the offensive end scoring 20 points to lead Urbana. He was there for a ton of putbacks and hit a few nice jumpers. He is undersized but plays with a toughness on the offensive end that coaches would die for.
Best defensive performance: Cameron Sembly (Manual)
Sembly was solid defensively today jumping the passing lanes and not letting Urbana get out into much transition. He was a big part in helping force 29 turnovers and had five steals of his own. He is much longer than he was last I saw him and knows how to use that length to his advantage.
Best Passer: Cologeno Dawson (Urbana)
Despite being just 5’5 the lead guard was a great passer and had some great looks. In a game with 60 turnovers his passing only led to one. It was nice to see him throw some hard passes while everyone else was lazy with the ball today
Best Takeaway: Despite their size, Urbana is going to be a lot to handle and that comes with their toughness. They are all anyone can handle and that says a lot in the high school game. Manual will be a tough out this year in the tournament. They are all huge and long and will create a ton of turnovers. They just need to be smarter with the ball through the season.
