The defense for South Vermillion flew all over the court forcing multiple bad shots for Hutsonville/Palestine and quite a few turnovers. South Vermillion was good on the glass as well and their ball movement was key to the victory.
Leading scorers: South Vermillion: Adam Hedden 16, Cooper Terry 10. Hutsonville/Palestine: Trent Mathews 15.
MVP: Adam Hedden (South Vermillion)
Hedden started the game off with a bang and never really slowed down. He hustled every play on the ball and never quit doing so. He scored the first few points for South Vermillion and he led his team to the victory.
Best offensive performance: Bryce McLeish (South Vermillion)
Despite his size, McLeish got to the rim an awful lot scoring in a multitude of ways. He has a quick first dribble and can shake his opponent. McLeish was really good in the half-court as well as transition as a facilitator of the ball as well.
Best defensive performance: Braden Kalber (South Vermillion)
Kalber is a huge 6’9 inside post presence for his team. He altered shots and got ever board that came his way. His defense at this point is way ahead of his offense and it showed in this game as he came up huge on defense.
Best Intangibles: Mason Wiltermood (South Vermillion)
Wiltermood was very smart in this game not turning the ball over or playing outside of his abilities. He controlled the tempo and was smart with the ball which helped out his team immensely.
Best Takeaway: South Vermillion is an interesting team and while they will never catch the eyes of people, they have the potential to really improve this year. With a little height and a couple decent shooters they could knock off some teams late in the season.
