With a halftime score knotted at 23, both teams looked to get momentum to start the second half but neither could grab it trading buckets in the third quarter to head into the third all knotted at 33. Rockville pulled ahead near the end and Salt Fork could not recover as Rockville took third place, 51-45.
Leading scorers: Rockville: Lance Hopkins 19, Hunter Michalic 11. Salt Fork: Brady McMasters 19, Austin Marcinko 11.
MVP: Hunter Michalic (Rockville)
Michalic once again really impressed me on the offensive end, and this time on the defensive end as well. Even though he hit eight threes the game before he did not force any in this one. He played very solid on ball defense and was a hassle to defend all day long.
Best offensive performance: Lance Hopkins (Rockville)
Hopkins attacked the rim with aggressiveness that I have never seen before. His jumper looked solid, although he did not knock many of them down. He was really, really good in the first quarter scoring his team’s first seven points. A really good showing for Hopkins
Best defensive performance: Brady McMasters (Salt Fork)
For about three and a half quarters, McMasters shut down sharpshooters Landon Newnum and Hunter Michalic for Rockville. He was in your face about as much as you can be on a guy. It was really impressive to see him shut down the shooters.
Best Underclassman: Logan White (Rockville)
Like the first game today, White was a man among boys. He has some really nice moves inside for being an undersized forward. He can rebound and he can hit the occasional deep shot. He will be a nice piece moving forward for Rockville.
Best Takeaway: These were two evenly matched teams with the shooters of Rockville and the inside guys of Salt Fork. It was interesting to see Hopkins destroy them on drives early on and then kind of shy away from it the rest of the game. Salt Fork did a really nice job on the perimeter guys of Rockville only allowing five three-pointers.
