There were a lot of fouls called and the pace of the game was quick in the first half as Noblesville opened up a 28-20 halftime lead.
Howe came storming out and cut the deficit to two going into the fourth quarter. Howe took their first lead midway through the last period but could not hold it allowing Noblesville to retake the lead. Howe won 48-47 on a three-pointer with just five seconds remaining.
Leading scorers: Noblesville: Max Flinchum 17. Howe: Anthony Hopkins 12, Rashawn Rush 12.
Leading rebounders: Noblesville: Nolan Ginther 6. Howe: Anthony Hopkins 6.
MVP: Rashawn Rush (Howe)
Rush hit the game clincher and made three critical three-pointers. He was impressive in the second half when his team needed him the most. He had two big assists as well.
Best offensive performance: Max Flinchum (Noblesville)
Flinchum led all scorers with 17 points. He did it at all three levels as well as at the line. He has a very nice repeatable shot and gets it off quickly. Very impressive as a catch-and-shoot guy.
Best defensive performance: Anthony Hopkins (Howe)
Hopkins was really good as the middle guy in Howe’s zone. He got caught up a few times but recovered well. Hopkins had quite a few huge rebounds and his defense is starting to come around.
Best under-the-radar performance: Jefty Sultzer (Howe)
Sultzer gave Howe critical minutes as they were in foul trouble most of the night. He scored pretty well and fought his way to the basket and kept his team in it with his effort.
Best guy off the bench: Ryan Barnes (Noblesville)
Ryan Barnes was really good of the bench giving Noblesville a big man inside with the starters were in foul trouble. Barnes gave them key minutes and scored a bit as well. He moved really well in the game to find the openings.
Play of the game: Rashawn Rush nails the game winner
Rush hit the three-pointer with five seconds left on the clock to give them the one point win. He earlier hit a three to give them their first lead of the game.
Best intangibles: Kycia Washington (Howe)
Washington really led his team emotionally and hustled on every single play. His teammates fed off of the energy he brought and that’s what really led the comeback.
Best underclassman: Xavier Hines (Noblesville)
Hines is a intriguing guard will really good ball skills. Did not see much time on the court but handled it like a senior instead of a sophomore when he had it.
Best passer: McGwire Plumer (Noblesville)
Plumer had 12 assists on the night. That is incredible for a point guard at the high school level. He was passing the ball to spots before his teammate even got there. It was really impressive especially with only one turnover against a quick Howe team.
Best takeaway: Howe reloaded and is going to be pretty solid in 2A again this year. Not sure how far they can go since they don’t have a guy that can score 20 PPG a night, but they are well rounded and quick. Noblesville’s guard play is good but a lack of height will hurt them in 4A.
Scouting
Max Flinchum (Noblesville) – 2017 6’1 SG – Flinchum showed me his quick release jumper in this one and it was impressive with the way he can get it off against the faster defenders. He played well on defense as well, worth a look at a small school.
McGwire Plumer (Noblesville) – 2017 6’1 PG – Plumer is one of the better point guards in the state and he proved it tonight. He was finding the open man every trip down the court in transition. Pass first and runs offense well.
Anthony Hopkins (Howe) – 2018 6’4 W – Hopkins was really impressing me with his jumper this game. He tried to score every touch and was very efficient from the floor. He was strong with the ball and low-majors are starting to take notice.
Kycia Washington (Howe) – 2019 5’10 G – Washington sat a bit due to foul trouble but when he was in he really played well. Did not score much but he did play with intensity and looked to drive and create.
