Journey is described by his coach as the heart of the team that plays great defense and does all the little things to help his team win. Journey spends a lot of time at the Rec perfecting his game. I know Journey and everyone at Kearns is looking forward to their match-up against Olympus.
This will be your 3rd year starting at Kearns, what makes this season different from the previous two?
“I think I have matured enough to lead my team this year. The only thing that is different this year from previous years is that we don’t really have a big man. I actually see it as an advantage for us though.”
What is it like playing at Kearns High School?
“If I had a chance to go to another school, I wouldn’t. The fans are very supportive and respectful here at Kearns and I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else.”
In Utah people take their basketball very seriously, where is the craziest place to play?
“Olympus High School! They have the craziest fans. When we played at their place last year I could barely hear my teammates on the court. Those fans were loud and crazy.”
Who is the toughest player you have played against?
“Austin Stevenson from Skyline High School, he was quick and can shoot.”
Who is your biggest rival?
“Well, last year it was Murray High School, but I honestly don’t know who it will be this year.”
Who is your favorite basketball player?
“Russell Westbrook, of the Oklahoma City Thunder, because he has a motor that never stops and his explosiveness is crazy. I want to play like him.”
What is going to be on your playlist this year to get you ready before a basketball game?
“To get me ready for a game I listen to hip-hop and my favorite rapper is Kodak Black.”
What team are you looking forward to playing this year and what team that’s not on your schedule do you want to play?
“Olympus!!! Next question.”
Is there someone at practice that you absolutely hate playing against?
“Not one person, but I like competing with Eshaya Wada aka. Hershey. Mainly because he’s a clown and him and Coach Cosby are always making the team laugh.”
What would you like to tell your competitors?
“Watch out for K-Town.”
