MVP
SG Quinlan Bennett (Proviso East – 2018)
After a pair of poor games on Friday Bennett bounce back to his usual form on Saturday. The 6’3” strong and rangy guard was more aggressive and effective slashing to the hoop throughout the contest. Bennett was slippery through traffic and finished with an array of runners and mid-range jumpers as well as a few finishes at the rim. Hit a catch and shoot three. Struggled at charity stripe. Bennett had 15 points. Potential low-major prospect.
Play of the game
Proviso East power forward Jordan Morris had an explosive spin move in the lane that he finished.
Best offensive performance
Quinlan Bennett (Proviso East)
Best defensive performance
PF Jordan Morris (Proviso East – 2018)
Morris is a physically built 6’5” power forward that looks like a college defensive end. He plays with toughness and an intense motor. Made his impact in this game with his rebounding. Snatched several tough boards. Also showed agility and athleticism around the hoop. Not overly skilled, but a big time athlete at his size. Morris projects as a potential D2/JUCO option. He had 10 points.
Best rebounder
C Mick Sullivan (Marmion Academy – 2018)
Sullivan is one of the top 2018 prospects in the state of Illinois at the center position. He stands at 6’8” and is country strong. Sullivan isn’t overly athletic, but he runs the floor well and has solid mobility. The junior hit the glass at a high rate in this contest. He snatched them off the glass with both hands and won 50/50 balls. Very strong hands. Plays physical down low getting deep post position and goes through contact. Missed a few bunnies, but overall was effective on the block. Has potential on a mid-range jumper, but guides it a bit too much. Sullivan had 15 points and 11 rebounds. Low-major programs need to take a look.
Best passer
PG Trevor Moore (Proviso East – 2018)
Moore is a quick and shifty point guard that is usually a solid shooter, but it wasn’t going down in this one. That didn’t stop him from dishing the rock however.
Best catch and shoot guy
PG Michael Osborne (Proviso East – 2020)
Osborne is a 6’1” freshman combo guard to track. Long and strong build. He has smooth acceleration with the ball off the bounce. Hit a pair of threes. Potential here. He had 6 points.
Best guy off the bench
F Jamal Smith (Proviso East – 2017)
Smith was the star of Friday for Proviso East. He wasn’t as effective on Saturday, but was solid. He also came off the bench in this one. Plus rebounder that uses quickness and feel to get on the glass. Not overly skilled, but he did have on nice take from mid-range off the bounce. JUCO prospect.
Best intangibles
SG Tyler Chisom (Proviso East – 2017)
Chisom came off the bench in this one. The senior leader of the Pirates did what he usually does. Attacks the lane with authority and got to the foul line. Had a couple nice passes on drive and kick opportunities. Solid game, but not what we are used too out of Chisom. He had 7 points.
Best underclassmen
Michael Osborne (Proviso East)
