Washington-Lee Generals point guard Chris Ozgo was his team’s second leading scorer as a sophomore last season. Six of the top seven scorers on last year’s team were seniors. Ozgo is poised to produce at a significantly higher rate this year.
“I’ve traditionally been a pass first point guard. With this team this year, I’ve been focusing more on being aggressive and getting my own shot,” Ozgo began. “As well as balancing getting others the ball as well.”
Last weekend at Wakefield Fall League, we witnessed Ozgo’s mentioned aggression first hand. He is an extremely heady guard with a solid skill set and sneaky quickness. Ozgo admittedly needs to continue to work on his finishing inside and defensive intensity, but he more than makes up for it given his other attributes. Ozgo is an underrated leader. He is a high academic student in the classroom, with a 4.1 GPA.
“MIT, Rose Hulman, and Swarthmore,” Ozgo mentions as schools who are recruiting him. “Really they just like the fact that I play hard. And I can shoot the ball, but I can also run their offense. That’s what they need at the next level. A guy that can run their offense.”
Ozgo has an idea of what he wants to do when the ball stops bouncing. He explained some of the deciding factors for his college decision.
“First, I want to go probably in a city. Academics is important to me. I want to be an engineer. Schools with a good engineering program or business program is really appealing to me.”
What can Ozgo bring to a program at the next level?
“I think my leadership. My shooting ability, and my ability to create for others at the same time. But mostly leadership.”
