Teams: Wood Memorial, Tecumseh, Northeast Dubois, Springs Valley, Evansville Day, Cannelton
Last Year: Last season, Wood Memorial went in as the favorites, having went 6-0 against Sectional opponents during the regular season. The did just what they set out to do with a 61-48 victory over host Tecumseh in the Championship game. Wood Memorial went on to make it to the Regional Championship game where they lost to West Washington.
Contenders For 2016-17: Expect the same result as last season. Wood Memorial had four outgoing seniors but really only wing Jacob Jarboe (9.5ppg) will be the biggest hit. They should be even better though as guys like Paxon Bartley and Lathan Falls step up. Falls missed time last season due to injury but in 1A, with his size, teams should struggle to defend him. Evansville Day went .500 on the season but the transfer of Rilee Epley out of the program really stings. Northeast Dubois and Springs Valley look like teams that could surprise and have solid seasons but this looks like a typical 1A Sectional with one dominant program and then everyone else just behind them.
Player To Watch: I think Lathan Falls could come in this season and average double-figures, in fact, I fully expect him to. However, Paxon Bartley is the returning leading scorer with more than 12 ppg. He showed that against a full schedule he can put up those kinds of numbers. No reason to expect a letdown. At 6’2, Bartley is pretty good off the bounce and a guy who racks up points from the free throw line.
