Teams: North Daviess, Loogootee, Vincennes Rivet, Shoals, Washington Catholic
Last Year: In 2015-16, this 1A Sectional was pretty open with North Daviess (14-12), Loogootee (14-11), and Vincennes Rivet (12-12) all having a legit shot to take home the championship. In the end, though, it was North Daviess knocking off Loogootee in the night game on Saturday. However, Loogootee was the only team that had an extra game that week and just was a little too much at the end.
Contenders For 2016-17: Well, Vincennes Rivet won’t likely repeat their performance again as they lose a lot from last season, their top seven scorers. However, look for Loogootee to be improved as they have a transfer in ‘17 wing Griffin Spring and only lose two seniors. They will be joined by North Daviess again. The Cougars return most everyone including Jaylen Lengacher and Andrew Swartzentruber. Shoals and Washington Catholic only won three games a piece last season so it’s not likely they make a 10-game jump in wins in one season.
Players To Watch: With Loogootee and North Daviess being the two teams that seem to standout early in the preseason, you really have to look at one player on each. Griffin Spring could bring a big offensive game immediately with his ability to shoot and have size on the perimeter. The exact same will be said for Jaylen Lengacher. The 6’3 wing has a solid offensive game and as a senior he will be relied upon. These two guys could be the difference this season for their respective teams.
