Teams: Rock Creek Academy, Christian Academy, New Washington, Lanesville, Shawe Memorial, South Central (Elizabeth)
Last Year: This past season, it was Rock Creek Academy that won the Sectional 62 Championship. They edged out New Washington in the semifinals by two and then Lanesville in the finals by five. This was a Sectional that was about as close as you will find. Four out of the five games were decided by eight points or less. That isn’t a surprise seeing as how Rock Creek, Christian Academy, New Washington, and Lanesville all had between 15 and 18 wins last year. It was a tight, competitive Sectional for sure.
Contenders For 2016-17: The Sectional should have a few teams at the top although Rock Creek might be one of the four from last season that struggles to keep up. Rock Creek is typically a very upperclassmen-laden team and last year they graduated seven seniors but had five juniors on the roster. They lost most of their size, however. Christian Academy should likely repeat their performance as they return most everyone including their top three scorers from last season. Lanesville is a flip of a coin. They return quite a bit but they guys that graduated will be tough to replace. They do bring back their only double-figure scorer in Riley Cook. The team with the best chance to repeat is New Washington. They bring back everyone and have a difference-maker in Stevie Mack in the post.
Player To Watch: Now, Stevie Mack might not be the sole reason for their success but when it comes tournament time, it is huge if you can have a distinct advantage and a 6’7 space-eater in the post for a 1A program is about as big of an advantage as you can get. You could see him be like Bloomfield’s Brandon Van Sant last year which propelled them to a long run in the tournament.
