Teams: West Washington, Trinity Lutheran, Orleans, Borden, Medora, Crothersville
Last Year: West Washington did what they were expected to do. After a very successful regular season and a 7-2 record against Sectional opponents, they took the Championship and headed onto Regionals. They started with Crothersville, then Orleans, and then Borden to win it all.
Contenders For 2016-17: This was a pretty tight Sectional last season and it looks like it could be very similar to that again. Borden has been among the best teams in 1A for the last decade and that isn’t likely to stop this season with Doc Nash at the helm. Trinity Lutheran will have a big rebuilding job as they lose nearly everyone from their 17-win team. Orleans should be able to compete as they bring back some big players including Duncan Gerkin (12.2ppg) and 6’6 Evan Allen. West Washington, though, should be the favorite heading in. They have their top five scorers all returning and with that they bring back 6’5 Jackson Byrne and 6’6 Hunter Sanford.
Player To Watch: With this being such a tight group of teams at the top, there are a couple guys that are standing out as players to watch. The first is Peyton Walker. The 6’4 wing was a big time player for West Washington and given his scoring as height, in 1A as a senior he could be a handful. The other player of note is Duncan Gerkin. If Orleans is going to have a chance this season they will need Gerkin to improve upon his already solid 12.2 points and 3.1 assists per game.
