Teams: Bloomfield, Shakamak, Clay City, North Central (Farmersburg), Eminence, White River Valley
Last Year: Last season, not very many teams were going to get in Bloomfield’s way. They easily took down their Sectional as well as a few other teams on their way to State Runner-Up. However, only Bloomfield had a record above .500 so it wasn’t much of a surprise that they got out of the first week. Shakamak was the only other real contender with their best season in the last four years.
Contenders For 2016-17: This upcoming season could be crazy as Bloomfield could be down quite a after losing a big group of seniors including Eli Combs and Brandon Van Sant. They do return a few contributors but reality is this is a different team and you aren’t really sure how they matchup yet. Shakamak is much the same and they, like Bloomfield, will be doing this all with a new head coach. Eminence could see a rise in play with everyone returning except leading scorer Kody Martin (14.4ppg). Outside of those schools, they will be looking to make a 10-game or more jump in order to really compete this season and they would be tough to do in one season, however, there might not be a team that is going to pull away this year.
Player To Watch: This is such an open Sectional, especially when you think of where it was at this time last year. With that said, two guys to watch this season are Isaac Combs and Bo Mehringer. Combs will step into some big minutes quickly for Bloomfield but he showed he could have a solid season this summer with Indiana Elite Central. Mehringer will be the best returning player for an Eminence team that has the best shot of having a big season. The 6’3 guard will be the main offensive target and if he stands up to the test, this group could have success.
