Teams: Lafayette Central Catholic, Clinton Prairie, Clinton Central, Tri-Central, Faith Christian, Frontier
Last Year: Last March, Lafayette Central Catholic had to slide past the competition oh so slightly to win yet another Sectional Championship. A narrow 2-point victory over Clinton Prairie in the opening round was the highlight game of the Sectional. LCC did what we have come to expect and made it into Regionals but the improvement of Clinton Central and Clinton Prairie strengthened this group over the course of the season.
Contenders For 2016-17: This season, expect somewhat of the same. Central Catholic will be tough once again although this group will be built around a lot more seniors. They only lose two seniors but guys like Ben Tharp and Trent Thompson are back and they have a couple younger freshman and sophomores that could contribute. Two years ago, Clinton Central won zero games. Last season, they won 11 games. With a new head coach and direction, this group could be in line for a season over .500 for the first time since 2006. Look for Axle Brandenburg and Keenan Orr to do a lot of the work. Clinton Prairie is that team that always seems to reload each season to be good enough to compete in every Sectional. They lost a lot this offseason though but expect them there at the end of the season pushing both LCC and Clinton Central. Faith Christian is a dark horse with Luke DeHahn and Austin Norton both back and contributing.
Player To Watch: The player worth watching this season is going to be Keenan Orr. The talented football player isn’t too bad at basketball and would have drawn quite a bit of interest for hoops had he not committed for the other sport. He averaged 17.4 points and 7.1 rebounds last season. He’s very likely to improve upon those numbers with the schedule they have laid out in front of them. A big season from Orr could help propel Clinton Central into a possible Sectional Championship.
