Teams: Broad Ripple, Covenant Christian, Indianapolis Scecina, Speedway, Heritage Christian, Indianapolis Shortridge
Last Year: This past season wasn’t a good one for Sectional 43 as Scecina, Speedway, Heritage Christian, and Shortridge all were under .500 for the year. Covenant Christian, despite missing a couple key pieces, still were able to get up to 16 wins. Broad Ripple was a little bit of a surprise as they went 18-8 and cleaned house in the Sectional bracket. However, they ran into one of the best teams in the city in Indianapolis Howe. Broad Ripple was filled with players all over the floor and only had two of their eight losses for more than 13 points.
Contenders For 2016-17: Expect even better results from Broad Ripple again this year. They lost guys like Kevin Hackett, and Isaiah Banks but Sam Colbert returns along with Demetrius Young Jr. who will provide size to pair with transfer Caleb Brown. Those three will makeup a very strong core that will be able to compete at a high level. As for the competition, look for Covenant Christian to be strong with Jordan Webb, Josiah Grant, and Kierson Watts returning and Ben Leary available after sitting out due to transfer. Scecina will be stronger but they are so young that they are likely to go through some ups and downs. Look for Heritage Christian to improve as well from their four-win season. The reality, though, is it is very likely to end in the same order as last year but we expect to see improved records across the board.
Player To Watch: The guy to watch if he is in fact cleared to play is 6’6 forward Caleb Brown. He could be an instant impact player for Broad Ripple. His size and skill will play all over the floor and he will be a pain to defend as he can stretch out to three or take you off the bounce. If he rebounds at a high clip, he should help boost Broad Ripple into one of the best teams in 2A this season.
