Teams: Marquette Catholic, Winamac, Knox, Hebron, Delphi, North Newton, North Judson
Last Year: This past season, it was a big time for Marquette Catholic that made it through to Regionals after a tough first round win over Winamac. It has been a while since the majority of this Sectional was really good but at the top, this year, you saw a great competitive seasons from both Winamac and Marquette Catholic. Knox got to nine wins last year even with having a ton of young talent.
Contenders For 2016-17: Expect the dynamic to change a bit as both Marquette Catholic and Winamac lose their big weapons. Marquette usually does a great job at reloading each year but they lost six of their top seven scorers. Knox is the team with the most intrigue this season as they got most of their offense from sophomore Kooper Broeker (18.0 ppg). They return everyone and already had nine wins for a very, very young team. Expectations should be high. Hebron is in a similar spot as they return most everyone. How Winamac will react this year will be the interesting one as they only lose two starters but those two guys combined for 33.7 ppg last year. The reality for them is they will need multiple guys step up.
Player To Watch: The guy I’m looking forward to watching in this Sectional is junior guard Kooper Broeker. The 6’2 wing player averaged 18 points as a sophomore last season and his team wasn’t very high scoring. The good thing is that is team is also young and should grow together and the Sectional isn’t as good as it was last year. If Broeker can repeat his performance and see his teams success improve, you could look at him in the same as Derek Dotlich was for Winamac this past season.
