It was a solid day filled with the best players from the southern part of the state. We have comprised a notebook on some notes on some of the more interesting players we saw on Sunday. We take a look at some of the class of 2020s.
MarQuan Givens [5’9 – 2020 – Evansville Reitz (IN)] – Givens is a big, strong guard that still could sprout up a bit with his size. Doesn’t have a ton of movement east and west but can slice, smoothly through the defense. Uses slight change of speed to help get him separation right now.
Quentin Harmon [6’3 – 2020 – Jasper (IN)] – Harmon looked like a player to track this winter. Only about 6’3 right now but has huge feet and so gangly that you know he is going to grow, and probably quickly. Plays in the mid-range pretty well and moves well. Project right now but could even out his game after his growth spurt.
Walker McCrary [6’5 – 2020 – South Knox (IN)] – Big thick wing that has decent touch out beyond the three point line. Will have to tone up the next few years but touch is there. If he continues to grow, he could move into the paint and have a solid inside-out game. If he doesn’t, he perimeter jumper is good enough to provide him with some offense.
Jarrett Phillips [6’0 – 2020 – Mitchell (IN)] – Well built guard with lots of toughness. Really solid awareness and body that when he wanted, he could put his head down and drive through the defense and score really well. Likely a combo guard or off-guard down the road.
Simon Wilson [6’3 – 2020 – Mt. Vernon Township (IL)] – Forward with some size and some more coming down the road. When in position, he can make plays near the rim. Good north and south runner who is better suited right now in a half-court set because his touch within 8’ is really solid.
