Continue ReadingThe 4A Kino region should be an interesting region, as it has two teams at the top that trot out some impressive talent that should put them a level above the rest of the teams. While Salpointe and Catalina Foothills should battle for the top spot, you have a newcomer to the mix in Walden Grove that has an outside chance to shake things up.
Salpointe Catholic – Majok Deng has emerged as not only one of the top players in the state, but on the West Coast in his 2019 class. Add the experienced duo of Cameron Miller and Isaac Cruz, and you have a formidable core that should be able to take care of business. While playing in the Central Summer League, the Lancers showed a level of discipline, teamwork, and personal accountability that is evidence of their experience. Alex McCall and Jackson Breshears also add experience.
Catalina Foothills – Catalina Foothills has a talented backcourt with Sam Beskind and Jared Irwin, and when you have strong, reliable guard play, that is tough to beat.
Walden Grove – New to the Division, the Red Wolves return the bulk of a team that finished 15-11 last season. Look for Anthony Saunders to have a breakout season and for Walden Grove to make their impact on this region.
Nogales – Nogales had a great season and postseason run last year, but they lost a lot of their key pieces. Combine that with the arrival of Walden Grove, improvement and maturation of Catalina and Salpointe, Nogales appears to be in for a rebuild year, even though they will probably still be tough to beat at home.
Canyon Del Oro – With a healthy roster entering the year, CDO should be much improved from their winless season, but still may only win a handful of games.
