Continue ReadingAcademics are a high priority for St Paul’s 6-foot-3 shooting guard Tyler Babcock, and the cerebral 2017 is eager to find a school that satisfies his thirst for academics and his desire to play college hoops.
“I’ve got couple D2s and a couple D3s looking at me. Hopefully I can really pick it up this season. I feel like I didn’t really play to my potential last year, and I feel like this year I’m going to take it to another level,” said Babcock.
“I have very good academics, so there’s some good academics schools that I’m on their radar.”
College programs from far-and wide have been reaching out to Babcock, and he even took a visit to one Western D3 program.
“One D3 interested I’d say is Colorado College up in Colorado Springs, they seem very interested in me. I’ve been in contact with their coach and I’ve been on a visit up there. And also Washington and Lee University in Virginia seems very interested in me,” said Babcock.
“I’m definitely looking at the academic side, that’s going to be the most important part of me picking a school. And I’m trying to find a school that’s very good academically where I can actually play.”
He added: “That being said, if a bigger school gives me a walk-on opportunity if I do really well this season, then I might consider that too.”
A sharpshooter with a nice build, Babcock defined his playing style to PHLA.
“My main strength is my 3-point shooting and my range,” he said. “And I would also say my physicality, I’m 200 pounds and I’m very strong in my lower body as well as in my shoulders. I feel like I’m very good when it comes to scoring the basketball”
With his senior season getting ready to begin, Babcock laid out his goals and expectations for the winter.
“I feel like I’m going to be more of a leader this year. We have a great group of guys; a lot of really skilled, talented, big players,” said Babcock. “I’m hoping to be a dual-threat this year, I’ve been putting in a lot of work and I’m really confident in myself.”
