“Right now, I’m getting in the gym mostly every day throughout the week after football practice,” Johnson explained. “Getting some players from the team to work out with me and one of our coaches just to stay in shape and in the basketball zone.”
Tayler scored 6.5 points a game last year off the bench and is joined by the nine points a contest from Jaquan Sanders-Smith, the dozen a game from Odell Wilson, and 15 a contest from Western Illinois committed Isaac Johnson.
“My goals for this year are again to win the conference, win the Twin Cities Championship game, and win state again,” Johnson said. “Planning on winning state the next two years and I see we got the Potential to do it with all of the underclassmen and new upperclassmen coming.”
There are several young and upcoming talents at North ready to step into roles.
“We all have heart and we’re young,” said Johnson. “I mean the things we’ve accomplished in the past opened North up to a high school and a lot of young talented kids want to come, and once people get here, they just open up their ears and pay attention to what the varsity players do.
“All of us also get a good amount of work over the summer. Playing for good AAU teams and getting into tournaments with a lot of competition which makes us ready for the season.”
Johnson is starting to hear from some schools after a nice summer with the Minnesota Heat Reese team.
“I’ve been consistently hearing from Nebraska-Omaha,” Johnson said. “I’ve been in close touch with them. I should be going to some of their games in either November or December to talk to the coaches and see their style of play.”
Tayler is also talking to local programs and will soon take some visits.
“Sioux Falls has been in contact, Winona State, St. Cloud State, and a few more small division one and division two schools that I can’t think of off the top of my head,” said Johnson.
“I haven’t taken any visits so far, but I’ve been talking to my parents and coaches about scheduling visits to Nebraska-Omaha and University of Sioux Falls.”
