As a result some area Division I schools have begun to take notice. Mart says several of them have mentioned they’d be tracking him this winter.
“A couple of local schools are showing interest, like Nicholls State, Northwestern, New Orleans, and Xavier (LA). And I went on a visit to Xavier in the summer. And I talked to the Northwestern coach and the Nicholls coach, and they said they’d come watch me this year,” said Mart.
“So I just have to have a big year and everything will fall into place.”
Mart mentioned one school he feels might be most interested in him right now.
“A couple D2 schools have called, I just don’t remember the names of them. I feel like Northwestern (might be first to offer),” he said.
“At first they (Northwestern) didn’t really know me, but I played at their elite camp and played really well. And I talked to their coaches and they told me they’d check me out and can’t wait to see me play this year.”
Though he heads into his senior season with no offers, Mart says that his recruitment isn’t something he agonizes over.
“It’s (recruitment) been a priority, but it’s not anything I really stress about,” he said. “It’s all controlled about how I play, and I’m expecting to have a great year.”
A do-it-all guard who has benefited from some added height and weight over the last two years, Mart defined his playing style to PHLA.
“I can do a lot, my game is skilled and over the past two years my body has developed as well and I’ve gotten more athletic, that’s what I was lacking before. I can dribble it, I can shoot, I’m a good passer and a good defender because I have good length,” said Mart.
“Now my body is starting to fill in, and I’m starting to gain weight and jump higher and move faster. And really I feel like I can do it all.”
After a nice junior season where he says he averaged 13.5 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds, Mart is eager to showcase himself one last season as a Brave.
“I thought I had a phenomenal year last year, and it should be a great year this year,” said Mart.
“I’m going to have to be a leader once again. Last year we only had one senior so my role is not really changing; I’m still a leader and I’ll try and keep everybody focused.”
