Todd helped his team past Chisago Lakes in the first round of state giving them 20 wins for the year. They ran into deeper DeLaSalle and Red Wing teams dropping the record to 20-12 but it was a season to be proud of.
Matt put up 20.2 points and 6.2 assists per game giving him 1,000 points for his career already in two seasons of basketball (1,061 to be exact according to the hub). Now Matt is getting ready for his encore as an upperclassmen.
“I lift with the guys on our team who aren’t in football every week and try to get in to the gym as much as I can,” Matt said about his fall workouts. “For this next season my main goal is that our team makes it back to state and that we go farther then last year.”
We like Monticello’s chances of another 20 win season with Todd, fellow junior Rezi Useh, senior forward Carter Hanglseben, and sophomore Hunter Rosenbaum all returning. They did lose three of their top five scorers to graduation though.
“We lost a lot of leadership from last year but I think we have guys who can pick that up,” Matt explained. “Also, I think we will a better shooting team then last year and have more guys who can score the ball.”
Todd has the talent to play division one basketball. Few have the vision, ball skills, shooting touch, and creative ability that he posses. Several division one programs are in contact.
“The schools talking to me the most are South Dakota, Nebraska-Omaha, UW-Milwaukee, Air Force, and Drake,” Matt said. “Denver just talked with my head coach about me recently too.”
Matt was on a trip last weekend and will see two more D1 programs in November.
“I’m taking a visit to Wisconsin-Milwaukee tomorrow,” Todd said last week. “And I’m going to the home openers for both South Dakota and Nebraska-Omaha in November.”
