The dynamic young lead guard showcased a high level of athleticism and defensive potential. Now a rising junior at Massaponax, Williams could emerge on the radar of college programs.
“I’m athletic. I can dribble, I can defend,” said Williams, who’s been playing organized basketball since the fifth grade. “I can shoot but if I had to work on something it would be shooting, being more consistent.”
Williams really made a name for himself at Hoop Group Northern VA Top 100, showcasing his exciting playmaking ability to go along with a very high motor on both ends of the floor. As a result of his steady performances at NoVA Top 100, Shenandoah University offered Williams a spot in their 2018 class.
“It’s just when I come into the gym people don’t think I’m that good of a player. They just judge me from the start as a non-factor in basketball,” Williams says about what he thinks is overlooked about his game. “I prove myself to be a good player.”
If he becomes more consistent, given his steady 3.2 GPA, Williams should continue to see his recruitment trend upwards. Don’t be surprised to see Division Two, and even some Division One programs begin to recruit the electric point guard. What can coaches who are recruiting Williams expect him to bring to their program in college?
“I like to play the one. I think I can be a good distributor,” Williams replied. “I can score when needed and I can lockdown on defense.”
