“Jay is the epitome of a true point guard,” said Coach Joshua Williams. “Great leadership skills, floor vision, excellent handles, solid decision making, and someone I truly trust to run our team.
“Jay brings a great work ethic to the team both in and out of season and is someone that sets high expectations for himself and our team each and every day with his effort and attitude.
Owatonna was a .500 team a year ago and with Jay back and an excellent junior class that includes Nolan Melo, Alex Raichle, Andrew Jackson, and Dalton Kubista, things should be looking good.
There are several seniors that were lost but Sullivan should make up for much of that.
“Jay is more explosive getting to the basket,” Williams said. “He has always been quick but has taken that to another level with a lot of work in the offseason to get bigger-faster-stronger.
“Court vision and passing. Jay has always been pretty good at getting to the basket but would sometimes miss the open guy. I know this summer he thrived for his WOTN team and setting his bigs up inside and shooters on the perimeter.
“Jay has a consistent outside shot. Jay finishes well, has a good pull-up jumper, and feel he has now added a more consistent 3pt shot to his game which is crucial.”
This weekend Sullivan will figure out more about what he wants to do with his future as he takes visits to a couple interested Illinois schools.
“If he decides to play at the next level he is down to two schools: Wheaton College and the University of Chicago (both in Illinois),” said Sullivan.
“He’ll be visiting both this weekend I believe. If he chooses not to play he is considering Minnesota-Duluth or the University of Minnesota.”
