He played for Suns Johnson this summer, continuing a positive trend with basketball after coming to a spring realization.
“My junior year had a lot of ups and downs,” Adams told NHR. “My coach and I were not on the same page at all last season, so there were some bad times. Now it’s my senior year, and my coach and AD and I had a really long talk before summer came.
“Since I work out in the mornings, I usually start my day in the weight room then go work out after school in the gym for about 2-3 more hours. Some things I improved on over the summer were becoming a better leader on and off the court as well as my jumpshot. I can say my coach is very proud of me and how much better I have gotten.”
With Adams primed for a good senior year, some junior colleges have already begun recruiting him, like Vermilion CC and Iowa Lakes.
“The Vermilion head coach came in this past week and had an talk with me,” Adams said. “He was just saying how he thinks I’ll fit in the program and how they could use a point guard like me. He also told me I could come watch them play a few times this year and see how they play.”
Washburn graduated a unique asset in seven-footer Charlie Irmiger (signed with Winona State), but they have a core group that will all make strides from last year, and Adams has high hopes.
“This upcoming year will be really special for us,” he said. “We will turn a lot of heads. Most people are going to be shocked about our team. A few players I think that will be doing very well this season are Terrell Adams (Cortez’ brother), Brandon Charles and Crisean Cole. If everyone stays focused this year, I can honestly say you will see us in state this year. We also have some really good role players who are willing to do whatever it takes to win.”
