One area Division I program is still inquiring as well, and Campbell mentioned that school as a dream opportunity for him.
“UNO has talked to me a little bit, and the coach at Jacksonville State in Alabama has called my coach a couple of times. And then I went to a camp a couple weeks ago at the University of Mobile and they said they’d come to see me practice before the season starts,” said Campbell.
“The school to talk to me most is UNO, and that school is just 20 minutes from my home, and if they offered me I would commit right away because I like that school already.”
But Campbell is also self-aware, and knows his stature is an issue. He says he’d be happy with whatever offer may come his way.
“To be honest, I’m only 5’7, and not too many schools take kids my height,” said Campbell. “So whoever reaches out and offers me to go to their school, I’d love to go there.”
A true point guard with a pass-first philosophy, Campbell went on to define his playing style to PHLA.
“I like to get my team involved first, and I like to penetrate and kick out to a shooter. And it’s easy for me to get a lot of assists because I got a real good big-man,” said Campbell.
“I’ve been in the gym a lot working on my 3-point shot, and I’ve been working on some full-court defense with my coach too.”
This summer Campbell was playing with Blazers Elite primarily, and played in Las Vegas with New Orleans Elite to finish his summer.
“This summer I actually did a lot more scoring and attacking the rim than I did last season. And I was attacking a lot and of course finding my shooters,” said Campbell. “And I was knocking down my 3-point shot a lot this summer, so I feel like I improved on that a lot.”
Now, the floor general can shift his focus to his senior season with Chalmette. And he’s got some very specific goals for himself.
“My goals for myself are to average 15 points per game, 7 assists and 2 steals. And we’re going to have a really good team, and we’ve been working real hard,” said Chalmette. “We lost one senior last year and he was our leading 3-point shooter, so my coach is really looking for me to up my scoring.”
