PG Myron Carmon (Olney Central – Freshman)
Camron is a 5’10” freshman lead guard out of North Carolina that is going to make some noise over the next couple years for OCC. He is an explosive lefty lead guard. Quick first step with blow by ability off the bounce and likes to attack the rim. Gets in the lane with ease and pushes it in transition.
SG Ajay Sanders (Olney Central – Sophomore)
Sanders is a well-built 6’4” shooting guard that plays with a toughness to his game. He has scoring potential and is particularly effective as a perimeter shooter spotting up for threes. Rebounds well for his position and has a knack for getting in passing lanes on the defensive end. Sanders has committed to Coastal Carolina.
SF DaQuan Lilly (Olney Central – Sophomore)
Lilly is a big and physical 6’6” small forward. He has trimmed his body down from last year where he is stronger and even more agile. The sophomore is at his best as a slashing wing using his strength and solid handles to get in the lane where he finishes through contact. Actually is an underrated passer as well. Perimeter shot needs some more consistency. Potential low-major D1 prospect.
PF Aaron Anderson (Olney Central – Freshman)
At 6’6” this bouncy four man flashed potential. High points rebounds with his length and jumping ability. Was a bit inconsistent finishing, but definitely has potential with a couple years of development at the JUCO level.
PF Ferlandis Penny (Lincoln Trail – Sophomore)
The star of the day might have been this 6’8” power forward. Penny has a long and lanky frame with plus athleticism. He was a monster on the glass high pointing rebounds and getting second chance opportunities on the offensive glass. Extremely explosive second jump leaper. Not much skill offensively other than catch and dunk. Runs the floor hard, but is a bit stiff doing it. Potential as a shot blocker on the defensive end. Low-major D1 to high D2 prospect.
PF Jean-Michel Tine (Lincoln Trail – Freshman)
Tine is a strongly built 6’8” post with a physical upper body. What he is best at is rebounding. That classic junk yard dog type prospect that plays with a motor on the glass. Lacks skill and is mechanical when trying to make moves in the post. Interesting freshman to track over next two years.
SG Sam Mack (Lincoln Trail – Sophomore)
The former Morgan Park wing flashed the ability that we saw back when he was in high school. At 6’4” the sophomore has plus size and athleticism for the off guard position. Showed some intangibles making the little plays including getting to several loose balls and making outstanding outlet passes. Knows how to use his athletic gifts slashing off the bounce and is explosive in transition. Can hit an occasional three as well although it is a bit streaky. Mack could be a low-major D1 prospect when it is all said and done.
SG Traveon Johnson (Lincoln Trail – Sophomore)
Johnson was one of the more productive prospects for Lincoln Trail. He stands at 6’3” with a thick body. Not very athletic, but is a crafty scorer. The power guard was at his best using his strength to bully opponents and get in the paint for scores. Not a great jump shooter. D2 prospect.
SG DeAngelo Isby (Wabash Valley – Sophomore)
Isby might have been the best prospect at the event. The 6’5” former Hillcrest standout has really rounded out his game over the last year. He is an athletic and rangy guard with solid strength. So smooth with the basketball in his hands while also being powerful when slashing through defenders taking it to the hoop. Handles have gotten tighter in traffic. Isby consistently wins off the bounce in one on one situations. Was up and down shooting it from the perimeter, but had several very nice looking jumpers including multiple step backs with a hand in his face. Pure shot mechanically. Isby displayed the ability to play on the ball some and initiate the offense. Definitely more of a natural scorer. Defensively moves well laterally and gets his hands on several steals a game. Very good mid-major D1 prospect that currently holds 13 offers.
SF TJ Parham (Wabash Valley – Sophomore)
Parham committed to Army out of high school where he played in Illinois at Marian Catholic. The 6’7” small forward presents size for position and solid athleticism. Parham is best working out of the high and mid-post area. He can take it off the bounce a couple dribbles with explosion and is a solid perimeter shooter from 15-18 feet and occasionally out to three. D2 prospect.
PG Erion Moore (Wabash Valley – Sophomore)
Moore was a standout at Hales that had a monster final year to his high school career. After transferring to Wabash for this upcoming season he is starting to settle in and should have a quality sophomore campaign for the JUCO program. Moore is a 6’1” point guard with plus athleticism and change of direction in tight spaces. The guard loves to attack his man off the bounce and get in the lane for scores slashing to the hoop. At times can play a bit too fast and needs to be more consistent on the jumper. D2 prospect with upside.
PF Javonni Harrell (Wabash Valley – Sophomore)
Harrell is very similar to the player we envisioned him being when we watched him in his prep days at Oak Park River Forest High School. Athletic, strong, and rangy 6’7” power forward who has quality length. Uses that length defensively to block shots. On that end is where he makes the most impact. Tough post defender that fights for position. Has the mobility to defend in a ball screen and contests jump shots. Quality rebounder that high points the ball. Offensively he is a bit limited beyond put backs and finishing dump offs for dunks. Harrell is probably best suited for a D2 program.
SG JuJuan Starks (Wabash Valley – Sophomore)
Starks is a 6’4” wing that has a thick body and doesn’t physically look like the most athletic wing, but you better watch your head if you think that! When we evaluated him Starks showed explosive bounce when attacking the rim and jumping off two feet. Definitely a slashing guard and almost all his points come in the lane. D2 prospect.
PG Armon Benford (South Suburban – Sophomore)
Benford is a former Simeon product that played his first year at John A Logan. He is now at South Suburban and put in a solid day when we saw him. The 6’1” point guard overall made sound decision with the rock in his hands when running the show. He a slippery guard with good handles. Not overly flashy. Quality on ball defender that gets after it on that end. D3/NAIA prospect.
SG Anthony Harris (South Suburban – Sophomore)
Really liked the athleticism that this wing brings to the table. The athletic shooting guard is a slick ball handler that had a few explosive takes off the bounce to the hoop. Flashed ability, but would like to see more consistency out of him. Definitely has D2 upside.
PF Ehab Eltayeb (South Suburban – Sophomore)
Quality size at 6’9” with broad shoulders and solid strength. Solid area rebounder especially on the defensive end of the floor. Posts up strong, but is a bit stiff with his post moves. Plays with a good motor. D2/D3 prospect.
PG Rasheide Bell (South Suburban – Sophomore)
This is a hardworking 6’2” point guard originally from the Evansville area. Long and rangy frame that is at his best on the defensive end. Tenacious on ball defender against opposing point guards. Consistently was pressuring his opponent and getting steals. Offensively flashed some slashing ability, but not much else. D3/NAIA prospect.
SG Richard Gaines (Southeastern Illinois College – Sophomore)
Gaines totally looks the part at 6’4” with strength and freakish athleticism! He had a couple explosive takes off the bounce which he finished jumping off two feet for dunks. Overall however the skill level didn’t show as the perimeter jumper wasn’t great and he didn’t do much offensively beyond a few dunks. Like his potential on the defensive end. Quality D2 prospect.
C Christopher Sodom (Tennessee Prep – Class of 2017)
Sodom is the only high school prospect in this scouting report, but he is definitely worth a mention. He stands at 7’3” with an insane wingspan! The recent New Mexico commit was a force blocking shots! He swatted anything and everything that came near him. Will be a quality D1 shot blocker. Hands are a bit shaky catching tough passes in traffic. Offensively he did flash solid mobility for his size and had a couple finishes inside. Rebounds well and gets offensive put backs. Quality pick up for New Mexico.
