Take a look at our top performers from the day. We will have an in-depth scouting report breakdown of the entire camp in the following days!
C Ben Wolf (Naperville Central – 2018)
The 6’9” center from Naperville Central was outstanding on Saturday. Wolf has size and strength that are hard to find in the class of 2018 across the state. Broad shoulders and is country strong. He has lost some of the baby fat and toned up since we saw him in July. It showed it too in his explosiveness! He was hammering everything home with powerful jams. We knew that Wolf had the skill on the low block with solid footwork. With his added explosiveness that brings a new component to his game. Solid area rebounder that high points boards. Wolf is a quality shot blocker that had several emphatic swats. Wolf helped his stock quite a bit on Saturday and should see a rise up the center board in 2018. Potential mid-major prospect that low-majors should be investing time on now.
SG Xavier Pinson (St. Patrick’s – 2018)
Pinson played the best we have seen him on Saturday. The 6’2” guard has a long and thin frame. He is very smooth with the ball in his hands both operating in the half court and transition. Weaves in and out of the defense in the open floor. Also has his head up looking to make plays for others as he is a solid passer that dishes it with some flare. Perimeter stroke looks good as he can hit from mid-range pulling up and is a capable three point shooter off the catch. Also flashes some defensive potential with his length and knack for getting in passing lanes.
C Mick Sullivan (Marmion Academy – 2018)
Sullivan is one of the better center prospects in the Illinois 2018 class. At 6’9” he has a strong build and plays with physicality. What makes him intriguing is he also has some mobility to his game. Sullivan can step out and hit a mid-range jumper. He especially likes the one from 15 foot on the baseline. The Marmion Academy post is an outstanding rebounder. Improving skill on the block including a jump hook. He rebounds both inside and out of his area. Tough offensive rebounder that fights and claws for second chance opportunities.
SG Malachi Smith (Belleville East – 2018)
Smith is one of the biggest wing stock risers since the July live periods. We liked what he brought to the table as a sophomore at Belleville East and thought he flashed potential, but he has taken that step from prospect to player over the last few months. Slick scorer that has a tremendous fluidity and ease to his game. Handles it well being able to win off the bounce and beat the help side defense to the rim. Streaky shooter, but does have range that can stretch out to beyond the arc as he connected on a few from there. Also is an underrated passer for an off guard. Tracking as a low-major prospect with the arrow up.
PG JR Cison (St. Viator – 2019)
Chison was a new name that made a major impression with his play at the NY2LA Futures Camp. The 5’11” point guard is a hard-nosed floor general that plays with toughness and flare. Crisp passer that dishes the rock well in the half court especially in pick and roll situations. Tight handles and he keeps it well through traffic in the lane. Plus mid-range shooter that can stop and pop from 15-18 feet with consistency. Can stretch it out to three on occasion. Like the swagger that this kid plays with. One to watch going forward.
G Donovan Moore (Hillsboro – 2019)
Moore was the breakout 2019 prospect at the PrepHoopsIllinois Top 250 Expo last month. In October he took his assault on the NY2LA Camp in similar fashion. The silky smooth 6’3” guard can play both on and off the ball. It didn’t matter he was effective in whatever he was doing. The combo guard is a monster attacking off the bounce and getting to the rim where he finishes through contact with tremendous body control. Gets it up on the rim before the shot blocker can make a play on it. With his long strides he covers so much ground in a short amount of time. Not just a scorer he is more than willing to find open shooters or dish it off inside with touch. Plays with a high motor all the time. Outstanding rebounding guard that is explosive on the offensive glass getting multiple every single game.
F Quincy Ademokoya (Normal West – 2020)
We are just starting to learn the names of some of the better 2020 prospects in the state. Ademokya from Normal West is a name to track for sure. At 6’5” the forward has a great frame that should allow him to continue to grow as well as get stronger. Plays with a big time motor for a young kid. His raw athleticism is outstanding with his ability to get on the glass out jumping opponents. Flashes offensively, but skill set will need to be rounded out. Defensively he is a dynamic shot blocker with timing. Also has the mobility to defend on the perimeter laterally and contest jumpers. Long term prospect that is very intriguing.
PG Courtney Ramey (Webster Groves, MO – 2018)
The St. Louis native came into the camp as the top prospect and left with that same distinction. The 6’3” long and rangy point guard is electric with the rock in his hands. He is at his best in the open floor using his speed and playmaking ability. Ramey has the speed to push it in the transition game where he will run it right at the defense and can score in that way. Also has the vision to throw dimes in the full court. In the half court he gets to the hoop with ease. Such an explosive first step that allows him to get past his defender. Really tough one on one cover. Rebounds well for a lead guard being able to take it off the defensive glass and go the other way. Moves well laterally on the defensive end of the floor. High-major top 20 national type talent.
PG Tyger Campbell (La Lumiere, IN – 2019)
The La Lumiere standout took it up a notch in the top 20 2019 game. He loves playing to the crowd and with his entire high school team in the stands he turned it up a notch. The 6’0” point guard has crazy handles. Campbell has the ball on a string and it is tough to get it away from him. Sometimes he can definitely over dribble, but he is an outstanding playmaking guard. Hit multiple mid-range jumpers and a couple threes to keep the defense off balance. Mid-range is his strength shooting it. Wins in one on one situations with slick handles and a killer crossover. When he looks to distribute he is a sound passer that has feel for the game. High-major prospect.
