West Valley Top 3
Moon Valley High School – It is rare to see a school lose a NCAA Division-1 prospect and still return enough talent to be capable of winning a region. That appears to be the case at Moon Valley as they will return key players Cam’ron Davis, Ja’van Lee, Trevor Thompson, and Jok Jok. Davis and Lee will play key roles for this team with their ability to make plays, extend the court, and play tough defense. Thompson and Jok will be responsible for caring the majority of the scoring for this group. Thompson is a talented shooter who can pull off of the dribble with a lot of confidence. Jok Jok is a long, athletic forward who can shoot the basketball, play on the block, and has good ability to use his footwork and rip through moves to attack the rim. At this point, they appear to be the favorite to win the West Valley region.
Greenway High School – Despite losing some talented players on last year’s team, Greenway will return some talented prospects and received a couple of key transfers. One of the top returners that everyone should have on their scouting reports is sharp shooter Scott Shavier. Shavier has improved his effort on the defensive end and is crashing the glass at a much higher level. Offensively, he shoots the ball as well as anyone and does a good job of attacking the rim off of the dribble. In addition to Shavier, look for 2019 Ivan Palomar to be a huge contributor after a freshman season that saw him start many games. Greenway could definitely contend for the West Valley title.
Sunrise Mountain High School – Sunrise Mountain will have to learn how to live life without NCAA Division-I talent Elijah Thomas. In addition to Thomas, the team will be missing Chris Mullaney, and Michael Walcott who were huge contributors for the team last season. With that said, this team should be poised to be successful this year as they will have a number of important returners who are ready to play bigger roles. Cody Fowler looks to take over a lot of the scoring duties with his ability to shoot the basketball from deep, Jacob Moore will continue to be a workhorse who plays tough defense and does all of the little things necessary to be successful, and James Malamas will be relied upon to hold down the paint, get rebounds, and score from down low.
West Valley Best of the Rest
Cactus High School – Two names to know: Matt Eberhardt and Brenden Stewart. If these two young men can get assists from quality role players, this team has the potential to finish in the top three in the West Valley region.
