Continue ReadingThe official start of the 2016-17 high school basketball season in Virginia is still more than two months away, but we can refer to Saturday it’s unofficial start.
Why? Because you won’t find a better event in the state to get you ready for the season than the Vantage Hoops Top 250 Expo, which will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday at Randolph Macon College in Richmond.
There roughly 200 players who will be in attendance at the event, with respected coaches guiding them through skill exercises before having the chance to compete in games against their talented peers. There is simply no better stage for players to grow their game, face stiff competition and get exposure in front of the Prep Hoops staff.
With that, our preview of the Top 250 begins with a look at some of the forwards and bigs who will be in attendance. Below are some players who we expect to make noise at the event. If you’re not on the list, you’re still in the right place, with a chance to show us what you’ve got come Sunday!
Daryl Anderson | Millwood ’19
One of the more intriguing prospects we’ve seen in Virginia, Daryl Anderson has reclassified into 2019 and switched schools from Amelia Academy to Millwood. Anderson hit a recent growth spurt and stands around 6-foot-7 now. The long-limbed, skilled big is a proficient shooter from the catch. Anderson will benefit from an additional year to put on more weight and to sharpen his ball skills.
Isaiah Anderson | Benedictine ’18
A versatile and potent inside-out threat on the offensive end, Isaiah Anderson is an interesting big who possesses good mobility to go along with ideal size to bang in the paint. A solid athlete who likes to get up and down the floor, Anderson is an active presence on the glass and should produce at a high level in this camp setting.
Armando Bacot | Trinity Episcopal ’19
Armando Bacot is widely regarded among the top sophomore bigs in the nation. A traditional big man who does a nice job carving out space on the low block, Bacot is fundamentally sound and extremely difficult to handle when he establishes position in the paint. Virginia recently became the ninth division one program to offer Bacot a scholarship within the last four months. As he continues to improve his consistency, fitness, and gain more experience, Bacot has the chance to be very dominant.
Zach Jacobs | Trinity Episcopal ’17
One of the more versatile front court players within Virginia’s senior class, Zach Jacobs plays with a considerably high level of energy on both ends of the court. At 6-foot-7, the athletic forward can score in the low post but is also very comfortable when facing up. Given his strong record in the classroom, Jacobs is an ideal target for high academic programs.
Dajour Rucker | Cape Henry ’19
Another versatile and highly productive forward who we will look forward to seeing this weekend is Dajour Rucker. The 6-foot-6 sophomore is a knock-down shooter off the catch from three, and does his due diligence on the glass. Rucker’s fitness has improved in recent months, and with recent offers from Richmond and Marshall, his recruitment is beginning to expand.
