Chasing the Minnesota Expo MVP
The headliners of the event include Dayton committed McKinley Wright, George Mason committed Goanar Mar, and the top two uncommitted best players in the state Ishmael El-Amin and Jordan Horn.
Between the four of them they are all likely to be near the top of the National Prep Hoops Top 250 when the list is revealed this October. Also, every location hosting an event is naming MVPs and you can bet these four will be up for it.
There are also several top 100 names in the senior class who are also competing who also could find their name on the national top 250 and work for the Minnesota MVP. Guys like Matt Carik of Rogers, Logan Rezac of Andover, Sean Sutherlin of Irondale, Robert McClain of Red Lake, CJ Woda of Heritage Christian, Josh McGreal of Centennial, and the Bezdiceks from Osseo Matthew and John.
Ten Names to Watch
NHR has our eye on several other prospects competing this weekend, guys that we think could make a major jump and be key college recruits this winter. Here are ten names that we are looking forward to seeing this weekend in addition to those above:
Ray Adams of Rochester JM. Since the first time I’ve seen Adams compete for the Rockets I’ve thought he could have a huge impact for this team as a slasher/defender. Is Ray ready for a huge role? The Top 250 is a good way to find out.
Thunder Heyer of Zimmerman. Heyer had a great spring and summer with Comets K pushing the pace and running his team. He’s expected to have a huge year for the Thunder too. We are really looking forward to see him in drills and running the offense this weekend.
Tyreeon Johnson of Coon Rapids. Johnson had a great spring and summer with Twin Cities Finest 17U and is expecting to have a huge senior year. What is he capable of this winter? That is something to watch this weekend. He’s a 6-foot-4 wing.
Jake Kutina of Shakopee. The 6-foot-5 Kutina will become a key ingredient for the Sabers this year and will have to shoulder a lot of the scoring and rebounding load. How has Jake’s game progressed? Is he ready for a big winter? Looking forward to see him this weekend.
Antonio Maddox of Richfield. Maddox was a key part to the Richfield resurgence last year scoring 11-12 a game and he has the chance to push that to 17-18 if he expanded his game in the off-season.
Hunter McCalla of Becker. Hunter does a lot for his team. Has really good size at 6-foot-4 that allows him to do things around the basket but he has the skills to handle some and to play on the wing. How far have those skills come? The Expo will give him a chance to show us.
Kaleb Nelson of Waseca. The 6-foot-3 wing had a really nice ten point per game season for the Jays on their way to state a year ago and was also very good for Select. How has his game progressed? What level of a scorer/defender is Kaleb? The Expo will shed some light.
Devon Schultz of Sibley East. Devon is the top post in the senior class that we are anxious to see. He’s coming in listed at 6-foot-10 meaning he’s grown so has his game grown like his frame has grown? The drills and open play will be good for the post.
Kevin Totusek of Apple Valley: The 6-foot-8 center will move into a big role for the Eagles this winter and we are curious to see where his game is at. Kevin is all of 6-foot-8 and has a thick shouldered frame that makes him tough to move. Several UMAC schools want to see him.
Bryden Urie of Proctor. Urie is going to be one of the top scorers in the state of Minnesota this year and he’s recently picked up an NAIA offer. Based on what we saw this summer Urie could grab more and the Expo will show us what level of scorer he could be.
