Right now Thompson — Louisiana’s 49th-ranked 2017 — is hearing from Division III programs from around the country.
He’s glad the interest is coming from academically sound schools.
“I have about three schools that are contacting me; Louisiana College, and there’s a school in Minnesota, St. Scholastica, and also University of Chicago, they’ve sent me letters and I’ve talked to their coach. And they’re all academic D3s,” said Thompson.
“I’m keeping my options open. I just want to go out there see what I can do, and hopefully everything comes around. Right now I’m just being patient with it, I’m not stressing too much over it right now.”
Leadership is something that Thompson cites as a strength of his — this winter will be his third season as captain of the Cardinals.
“My strength is definitely that I can shoot it. And I’m definitely a leader on the court — I’ve been a captain of the high school team since my sophomore year,” said Thompson. “And I don’t’ really rush anything I just let the game come to me.”
With his senior season just months away, Thompson laid out what his role will be with the squad, and how it will differ from last season.
“I’m still going to be one of the main scorers. And this year changes a little bit to where I’ll have to be more patient with the younger guys. Last year we had more seniors and it was their job to guide them through it. And this year I’m a senior and it’s my job to guide the younger guys,” said Thompson, who mentioned some personal expectations of himself.
“This year I want to make first team all-district, last year I was an honorable mention. So that’s definitely my personal goal for the season. And I’ve spent the whole summer summer working on my defense, and I want to showcase that during the high school season also.
