New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva’s Tyler Raimann is that type of big man.
Standing 6-foot-8 with a country strong frame, Raimann is a true center in every sense of the word.
Raimann hasn’t been featured to this point in the NRHEG offense a great deal to this point as the Panthers have been led by Oakley Baker, John Cole and a host of other talented perimeter scorers.
Baker is still there, but as others have graduated, Raimann figures to see an uptick in offensive opportunity this upcoming season for a NRHEG squad that should contend for the Gopher Conference and a trip to the state tournament.
“We’re all very excited for this basketball season,” Raimann said. “We’ve been playing together for a long time. A lot of us played together this summer in AAU and we’ve got great chemistry. If we stay healthy, we could be a force to be reckoned with.”
NRHEG runs a four-out, one-in offense that revolves around spacing the floor. Raimann represents the “one-in” and with the shooters the Panthers run out there, he’ll have chances to terrorize opposing big men in the Gopher Conference.
An area of Raimann’s game that goes unnoticed to most but will help him get a college opportunity is his ability to screen. He’s big and strong and he sets hard screens. He’s not going to pick and pop or spend a lot of time roaming the 3-point line, rather he’s going to set picks and free up teammates and do a lot of the dirty work inside.
“I like setting screens and I like to bang down low a lot,” said Raimann. “I don’t spend a lot of time outside. When I get the ball inside, that’s my haven.”
Raimann said the area of improvement he’s hoping to showcase this season is his improved scoring ability from the low and mid post areas.
As far as college recruitment goes, Raimann has been in contact with Valley City State, Northwestern, Sioux Falls and a few others. He said he’s not in a big hurry to make a college choice and is willing to go into the season before committing.
“I’m not in any hurry,” said Raimann of his commitment timetable. “I just want to go somewhere that I can fit in.”
Raimann spent the spring and summer playing grassroots with Minnesota Nice.
