Kranz returns for his senior year at Sauk Rapids to a program that looks miles ahead of what it looked like when he was a freshman.
“We’re really excited about the upcoming season,” said Kranz. “We’re really long. Cody Landwehr and Deng Deang are coming back. Both guys are 6-foot-6 with a bunch of talent so we’ll be long and really athletic. We’re looking forward to pushing the ball up and down because of our athleticism but we’re also not afraid to slow it down and play to our size.”
At 6-foot-5, Kranz is a difficult matchup for opponents because of his ability to drive and he does a good job playing off his teammates and manufacturing points organically within the flow of the offense.
With Kobe Boraas and Camden Jackson gone to graduation, Kranz will be asked to step up and do more this year for the Storm. After putting up 13 points per game and six rebounds, he thinks he’s up to the task.
“I’ve been working on my ball-handling and shooting a lot which should add another dimension to my game,” said Kranz. “We’ve got such good chemistry as a team that I don’t feel like I’ll need to force a lot of things but I think I’ve made the biggest improvements this summer on my dribbling, so I’ll be ready to do more.”
Kranz spent the spring and summer playing grassroots AAU ball with the Minnesota Comets and Steve De Los Reyes and has seen his recruitment take off because of that success.
To this point, Kranz has taken visits to Augsburg College and The College of St. Scholastica. He’s also got visits planned with St. John’s University, Briar Cliff University, Waldorf College and Concordia College (Moorhead).
“I liked them both,” Kranz said of his visits with Augsburg and CSS. “Different settings for me and I got to see what those lifestyles would be like. Really beautiful campuses and the coaches made me feel really welcome.”
Kranz said he hasn’t thought about when he’ll make his college decision but said his plan is to head into the season and see if more schools gain interest in him during the year.
