The Zimmerman lead guard played with Comets K and helped them be a top 25 team for the majority of the year.
“My top experience would have to be last year’s Great Plains Alliance tournament.,” Thunder said.
“We beat the top team in South Dakota and we fell just short against a couple top teams in Minnesota. We didn’t have the most talented team but we played together.
“AAU made me a better basketball player because of the competition I played against whether it was in practice or at a tournament. Going up against the best players let me know where I was as a player and how much I need to improve to get to where I want to be.”
Thunder put up 16.4 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 3.1 steals a game shooting 45 percent from the field and 41 percent from the arc as a junior. Next up is a big senior year.
“Our team is training with Danny Makepeace from Pure Intensity every Monday morning and I can already see improvements in my teammates,” Thunder explained.
“As for myself, I am going to a few shooting camps and working out, just trying to get stronger for the season.”
The Thunder underachieved at 11-14 a year ago but Thunder is back along with Chandler Wellman and they have big expectations. Heyer is a constant, including his 28 points per game in the playoffs last year.
“My top moments were hitting a buzzer beater three at Little Falls to send the game to overtime. Another would be getting fouled with .4 seconds left in the game on a three-point attempt and making all three free throws to send the game into overtime against St. Cloud Apollo.:
All of his production in high school and AAU basketball has led schools calling on him about college hoops.
“Jamestown, Waldorf and St. Scholastica are showing the most interest,” Thunder said. “I visited Jamestown a couple weeks ago and I’m setting up a visit to Waldorf on October 8th. That’s all that I have planned for now.”
